UTME: Magistrate court jail professor for impersonation during 2019 UTME examination

"Professor" Jide Josiah Jisos was given a six-month prison sentence by a Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, for impersonating someone during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

While keeping an eye on the 2019 UTME at Brix Academy in Abuja, the convict was captured by representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB.

In a statement released on Sunday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the board confirmed that "Prof." Jisos had appeared before JAMB exam officials on behalf of a non-governmental organization (NGO) and claimed to be there to supervise the test.

His deceit was discovered, though, when the monitoring team leader confronted him in the examination hall and asked him to explain his intentions.

After failing to provide evidence to support his claims, Jisos was taken into custody and turned over to security guards for additional examination. He admitted during questioning that he was in the exam room to help his daughter take the 2019 UTME and that he had no affiliation with any NGO.

Jisos was sentenced to six months in prison with the possibility of a ₦100,000 fine after Chief Magistrate Honourable Justice Folashade Oyekan found him guilty of a single count of impersonation, according to the statement.

The day the judgment was rendered was not specified in the statement.
