Chelsea reached the group stage of the Europa Conference League in Geneva tonight, but they made hard work of it. Christopher Nkunku put Chelsea ahead from a penalty after 14 minutes, as he had in the first leg and everything seemed set fair for a straightforward passage into the next phase.
But Servette striker Jeremy Guillemenot levelled against the run of play before the interval, and substitute Enzo Crivelli headed the hosts in front on the night after 72 minutes. Chelsea had chances to settle their nerves, but in the end they were relieved to hear the final whistle.
Enzo Maresca fielded a young and much-changed side in Switzerland. Only three players who started the 6-2 victory at Wolves kept their places as Chelsea attempted to use their enormous and unwieldy squad to their advantage, Noni Madueke, the scorer of a hat-trick at Molineux, Enzo Fernadez and Mykhailo Mudryk.
