DONE DEAL: Conor Gallagher's transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid is confirmed.

Conor Gallagher has officially joined Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal from Chelsea, with a reported fee of £34 million.

The England midfielder's transfer to Metropolitano Stadium was delayed earlier this month due to issues with a nearby transfer for Samu Omorodion, but those problems were quickly fixed.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca had previously confirmed Gallagher was training away from the first-team squad at Cobham as the switch neared completion.

In a busy summer transfer window, the 24-year-old has joined Atleti as their newest addition. The Spanish team has also added Robin Le Normand, Julian Alvarez, and Alexander Sorloth as they aim to compete for titles both domestically and in the Champions League.

Gallagher made 95 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring ten goals, and was frequently named captain last season under former boss Mauricio Pochettino in Reece James' regular absence.

His departure also helps to somewhat streamline the west London side's squad, which has grown increasingly bloated thanks to the strategy employed by BlueCo, which has seen young players arrive on mass with long-term contracts handed out frequently.

In their Premier League debut against Manchester City over the weekend, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez were all in the middle of midfield. However, Mateo Kovacic, a former Stamford Bridge player, stole the show as he scored the second goal for the visiting team in the 2-0 loss.

Thus far this summer, Chelsea has signed Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Viega, Caleb Wiley, and Pedro Neto; former loanee Joao Felix is has also joined the list to make a permanent return.

After being left out of the starting lineup against City, Raheem Sterling's future is uncertain, but striker Armando Broja is anticipated to sign a loan deal to play for newly promoted Ipswich Town.
